Neurological Conditions Affecting the Skin

David J. Eedy

Overview

The relationship between the nervous system and the skin is complex. Neurocutaneous disorders may be divided broadly into those associated with sensory abnormalities, and those associated with autonomic abnormalities, although there is overlap between these two groups. Skin manifestations may occur where the pathology is predominantly located either in the central nervous system or in the peripheral nervous system.
Keywords neuropathic ulcer, syringomyelia, spinal dysraphism, sensory and autonomic neuropathies, sympathetic nerve injury, complex regional pain syndrome, gustatory hyperhidrosis, burning feet syndrome
